- MC-505 editor now is a donation
ware. please see note below on what and how you can donate
Notes
on the new Graphical Interface (F9)
- It works on Part 1 to 7 only.
It doesn't work for the Drum part
- It only supports commonly
used parameters. For other parameters, press F9 again to go back to the old
editor
- You still can use hot key
to call the menu on the old editor while you are at the graphical interface
(try press ctrl+C for tone copy) The Graphical editor will disappear, but
you can always press F9 again to bring it back up
- Tone Select and Show Tone
works the same as on the old editor. On systems slower than Pentium 166MMX,
you might exeperience slow knobs update when you shift click the Tone Select
Words on
the graphical editor's knobs and switches
- You may find that the knobs
and switches behave a bit goofy at first. Please keep the following things
in mind. It will help
- knobs and switches are in
fact another version of the tweakers on the old editor. So they behave exactly
the same
- Hold Mouse and drag left or
right o change value of knobs and switches
- Shift hold to move the knobs
faster. This will not move a knob at all if the range of the knob value is
less than 10 (e.g. gain knob)
- Double click to get back to
the default position (indicated by the red dot on each knob)
- For those who like to see
numbers while moving knobs, sorry, you can't. But I guarantee that patches
you make will sound more organic when you don't see numbers.
- However, sometimes you need
to be precise (e.g. with the semi knob), click the value box at the bottom
right of the editor and then place your mouse cursor on the knob you wish
to edit. Type the value you want by keyboard and press Enter
Words on
Patch Shake
- Patch Shake is my answer to
the request for intelligent patch random function. (Thanks everyone who helped
brainstorming) . Now Patch Shake may not be really a patch random function
but its results are quite desirable.
- There are 2 types of Patch
Shake, namely, Linear and, of course, Non-linear. Although you can set shake
amount of both types independently, I recommend that they are set to be low
so that the results will be more predictable (in a random way) and just so
you have some idea what you are doing with the patch.
- Linear Patch Shake is different
from Non-linear (when both's amount set to low) in that it hardly preserves
the original patch's character once shaken. So Linear Patch Shake maybe better
used for getting started and then use Non-liear to shape the patch (in a random
way). (But, certainly, this is not a rule, you can be as creative as you want.)
- When you press Ctrl+R, only
the selected tone will be shaken. All the selected tone, once shaken, will
have the same parameter values. Try using more than one tone but shake them
seperately. The results will be more subtle.
- Oftentimes, shaken patch will
have no sound. Try adjusting Tone level, Filter cut off, and other bi-polar
parameters. The result will be wildest when you enable shake for modulation
and LFO parameters (if not overdoing it)
